Sam Simon was one of the greatest friends that the animal world ever had. The Simpsons co-creator and longtime veteran of television writing rooms was a philanthropist and passionate activist who contributed millions to many causes. Most of those causes revolved around saving the lives of animals. In the months leading up to his passing, he spent significant funds rescuing circus animals, helping them escape a life that they should never have faced. In a radio interview, he talked about buying up entire small circuses just to rescue the animals that were part of them.  He was then spending funds to ensure each and every one of them would be sent to a safe place where they would have proper care.

The news of Ringling Brothers Circus closing down is something that Sam would be proud of. It is a major victory.
