The week that I write this saw Actor Will Smith and his Fresh Prince cast-mates reunite from the safety of their home screens. The clip I viewed included a moving tribute to the late James Avery, who made Uncle Phil a famous TV patriarch.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was the one show I saw from start to finish in each of the seasons it aired.
One of the many things that made the show great was how during the end credits, a blooper reel would play for that particular episode. This was my look into how shows can end up evolving into hysterical moments of improvised comedy magic. You saw people working and having fun while doing so. So in addition to looking forward to the show itself, fans stayed tuned to the endings and laughed along at it all. I believe Fresh Prince introduced audiences to the potential comic reality of show outtakes and the joy those moments can bring to the screen.
There are so many great Fresh Prince of Bel Air outtakes that it would be impossible to narrow down a refined list. A personal favourite is a scene when Joesph Marcell (Geoffrey) goes to suggest to Uncle Phil that he should break one of Aunt Vivian’s Crystal Figurines.
In one take, he erroneously says “fusiliers” instead of figurines. The dry deadpan response made for hilarious television.
