Given the countless numbers of victims who have been traumatized by the Catholic Church, why are some provincial governments in Canada still giving Catholic Schools ANY public funds? The abuse and cover-ups were not enough, and the wider exposure given to their roles in Canada’s Residential School System were still not enough?
Please explain….

In general, I wonder why we continue to be hands-off with religions, simply because they’re religions. For example, I understand not taxing a fledgling church, because that could be misused to suppress freedom of religion.
But I find it hard to believe that , say, the Catholic Church (amongst others) can’t step up and pay some taxes. As I said to my mom as she dropped money in every collection box in the Notre Dame Basilica, “The ceilings are covered in gold, mom. We probably need the money more.”
